Acclaimed writer, respected thinker and outspoken former bishop, Richard Holloway, pictured right, will be at Main Street Trading Company on March 8 to talk about his long-awaited memoir, Leaving Alexandria.

Author Philip Pullman said of the book: “Richard Holloway’s memoir is endlessly vivid and fascinating. It’s the record of a mind too large, too curious and far too generous to be confined within any single religious denomination.

“His account of how a passionate, intelligent boy grew out of a poor and deprived background without ever losing touch with the humane values it gave him, will be a delight and inspiration to believers, non-believers, and ex-believers alike.”

The event is being held on Thursday, March 8 at 7.30pm and tickets cost £8 (includes a glass of wine). However, if you would like to win a pair of tickets to the event plus a copy of Richard Holloway’s memoir, just answer the following question:

Which city is Richard Holloway the former bishop of?

Send your answer, with your name, address (including postcode) and daytime telephone number to susanwindram@tweeddalepress.co.uk by 5pm on Monday, February 27.

If you are not lucky enough to win our prize but would like to attend the event, you can book by calling Main Street Trading Company on 01835 824087 or email info@mainstreetbooks.co.uk.
