Audition call for young hopefuls

THE UK’s biggest music theatre company for young people is looking for Borderers to audition for its summer productions.

Youth Music Theatre (YMT) is in search of actors, singers and dancers at Dance Base in Edinburgh on Thursday, February 17. The auditions are group workshops that last more than two hours where participants will be asked to act, sing and dance for a YMT director, music director and choreographer.

Productions planned this summer include Terry Pratchett’s Mort, a new musical version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and a new show, Out There by James Bourne, formerly of Busted. James’s last show for YMT, Loserville: The Musical, is due to open in the West End later this year.

Lauren Samuels, who was in BBC TV’s Over The Rainbow and is starring in Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre, London, is a performer who came through YMT. Lauren said: “I had such a wonderful time. It helped me to grow, not only as a performer, but as a person. It made me realise how much I wanted to pursue my dream”.

YMT uses leading industry professionals who have worked on shows such as Mamma Mia!, Spamalot, Matilda, Blackwatch and Riverdance.

Aspiring performers are advised to book audition places at www.youthmusictheatreuk.org
