Yarrow folk music hub The Gordon Arms welcomes a new genre, jazz, this Sunday afternoon from 3pm, with Lucy Cowan and Lachlan MacColl.
Lucy, a player of classical, early music, jazz and folk music, studied violin at the Vienna Hochschule für Musik, and Orrea Pernel in Switzerland, before performing with the Scottish Baroque Ensemble and Scottish Chamber Orchestra in Edinburgh.
Since moving to the Borders, she became a member of the Rowan Tree Company and IDEOMS, led the Scottish Borders Community Orchestra, and taught chamber music courses for the Edrom Casals Centre.
Lachlan has taken part in most Edinburgh Jazz Festivals since its inception, and also Glasgow Jazz Festival, co-led with Duncan Lamont, and Dunoon Jazz Festival with Jim Mullen. For many years, he was a member of the Gordon Cruickshank Quartet and played in the David Newton Quartet. He has also broadcast on Jazz in Britain for BBC Radio 3, and programmes for Radio Scotland, one a special with Jack Bruce.
