Coldstream has been named the Champion of Champions at the 15th annual Scotland’s Floral Gateway awards.
The ceremony took place at Tweed Horizons in Newtown St Boswells yesterday (Tuesday), with 18 communities taking part across the Borders.
The competition consists of four categories, based on population size. The elements judged are floral presentation, cleanliness and community involvement. Points are awarded for all three and the winners are those which score the most within each category.
The Champion of Champions category was introduced in 2009 to bring an added element of competition and to ensure an opportunity for all communities which have taken the time and effort to put themselves forward.
The full list of winners for 2014 is Champion of Champions - Coldstream; Town - Hawick; Large Village - Melrose; Small Village - Ayton; Wee Village - Morebattle.
Jenni Craig, Scottish Borders Council’s Service Director for Neighbourhood Services, said: “I am very pleased to say that the standard of entries was again extremely high and congratulations are due, not only to the prize winners, but to every community and volunteer that has taken the time and effort to get involved.”
