Jed Thistle are just a whisker away from winning the 2014/15 Borders Semi-Junior League, following a fine victory over Selkirk Youth Club on Saturday.

Playing at a wintry Victoria Park, the hosts took an early lead with a penalty from Scott Francis. The Thistle forwards then began to get the upper hand, with Kyle Amos playing well in the line-out.

Thistle began to put pressure on the Youth Club, with Ben McNeil scoring the first try, followed by a penalty from Robbie Yourston. Rory Smith scored Thistle’s second, converted by Yourston, to give the visitors a 15-3 halftime lead.

The second half saw McNeil go in for his second try, converted by Yourston, before Harry Borthwick scored a well-taken try for the hosts. Thistle rounded off with a try from Calum McNeil, converted by Yourston.

Thistle need to win one of their two remaining fixtures to clinch the league.
