WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE
THE harsh realities of top-flight rugby became apparent to an understrength Melrose when a sluggish start meant they were given a clinical lesson in finishing by a well-drilled team who have dominated women’s rugby for decades.
Despite trailing at the break, the visitors refused to lie down and in the second half their reshuffled team showed enough skill and determination to outscore their illustrious hosts during that period. A number of spirited assaults on the home line would have closed the gap even more, had the referee not been unsighted on at least two clear touchdowns.
Melrose scorers were Lauren Harris (2) and Lana Skeldon, who converted her own try.
