Teries make case for defence

Hawick Wanderers 14

Gala Wanderers 13

SEMI-JUNIOR LEAGUE

SATURDAY’S much-anticipated match between the top two teams didn’t disappoint, producing a tight affair where defences were to the fore.

Gala opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a well-taken James Parker try which Keith Young converted. The Teries struck back with a Corrie Wilson penalty before Keith Young replied in similar fashion at the other end to put Gala 10-3 up.

As half-time approached, the leeway was cut with a try in the corner after good handling.

Gala restarted the brighter side with Young adding another penalty, but Hawick fought back with two Corrie Wilson penalties to edge in front with 15 minutes still on the clock.

The Teries defended heroically for the remainder of the match, stopping their opponents just short of the line several times.
