Talking big ahead of derby

Big games in the Premiership are a weekly occurrence at present, but in the Borders they don’t come much bigger than the one taking place at the Greenyards on Saturday.

Top dogs Gala travel the short distance to play fourth-placed Melrose, and, with only seven points separating the two it’s likely to be another highly entertaining encounter.

“These games are always big occasions and we are looking forward to a big crowd and a big performance this weekend,” said Melrose coach John Dalziel.

“We are desperate to build on a good attacking display last weekend and we know if we get certain areas of our game right we can challenge anyone in this league.”

A bonus-point win at Netherdale last weekend brought a smile to the face of Gala coach George Graham, who is keen to maintain that position at the top of the league.

“I was really pleased with our performance and that we fought on to get that all-important last try,” he said.

“Melrose weren’t champions two years on the trot for nothing, though, they are a good team and we always look forward to playing them.”
