INJURIES and unavailability of players forced Langholm to travel to the Peffermill sports complex at Edinburgh with a much-changed side from that which recorded wins the two previous weeks, writes John Smith.

The weak Milntown outfit proved no match for the sprightly University side, who ran in six tries. There was also the added blow for Langholm of an increased injury list, with both Richard Mackay and David Divers having to leave the field.

The city students opened the scoring from a neat move in the centre and the conversion was good. Langholm defended stoutly, but Uni scored another converted try.

Mackay went off for Langholm with a foot injury and was taken to hospital, with the inexperienced Lee Maxwell, who had stepped into the squad at late notice, going on as replacement.

The students scored from an overlap to make it 19-0 at the break. Langholm prop David Divers went off with a shoulder injury and was replaced by Sam Kitching, as the University went further ahead with a converted try.

Alasdair Cavers was stopped just short for Langholm, but a penalty was awarded and Jordan Reid took a quick tap to crash over and score, the conversion missed.

The Borderers went down to 14 men when Stephen Devlin was yellow-carded and the hosts took advantage by running in two late converted tries.
