A double dose of sevens tournaments awaits Selkirk’s young rugby players this weekend, with Langholm and Peebles taking their turn as hosts.

Tomorrow the circuit goes south to Milntown, where Selkirk have drawn Orkney in the opening round, while on Sunday the Souters face Kings of the 7s leaders Gala in their first tie at The Gytes.

Although Selkirk didn’t manage to get past the group stage at Berwick Sevens last weekend, the injury-ravaged squad came within touching distance of a place in the semi-finals – being pipped in the dying seconds by Edinburgh Accies (22-14).

“Every player in the squad contributed to a fine overall effort,” said director of rugby Cameron Cochrane.

Selkirk opened their account with a convincing 45-0 victory over Duns.

Gala went on to retain their title after defeating Accies 30-17 in the final.
