Overnight frost left parts of Jenny Moore’s Park hard underneath the soft top, but both sides were keen to play and the BT Borders Regional Shield game went ahead.

The visitors’ Kirk Ford opened the scoring with a penalty, before converting Greg Cunningham’s first try of the season to take a 10-0 lead after 17 minutes.

Former Linden prop Terry Skeet got a touchdown back for St Boswells, before the Villagers took the lead after 31 minutes when Stephen Hill went in for try number two, with Dean McCracken converting.

Ryan Hogg added another five-pointer and McCracken converted to make it 19-10 at the break.

The edge went out of the game in the second half and the home team started to take control of proceedings, helped by their domination in the scrum. They scored four further touchdowns from David Cassidy, Adrian Donoghue, Stephen Hill and Finlay Robb, which were all converted by McCracken.

The victory puts St Boswells top of the Borders Regional Shield group and a win in their final game against Hawick Harlequins would see them pip Berwick for a place in the semi-finals, with Hawick Linden in third place.
