Melrose grabbed a superb victory at reigning Premiership champions Ayr today.
John Dalziel’s men trailed 11-8 at half time but scored 25 unanswered points in the second period through tries from Peter Eccles, Nick Beavon, Fraser Thomson and Bruce Colvine for a 33-11 win.

Hawick also let slip a lead when they lost 24-18 at Glasgow Hawks which saw the Teries’ scrum half Bruce Campbell sent off for stamping late on. In the National League, Selkirk were thumped 51-23 by much fancied Watsonians at Philiphaugh. A second half comeback from Peebles meant they picked up their first win with an 18-14 triumph over GHA, and Kelso thumped Biggar 32-10.
Jed-Forest made it two wins from two in Championship B thanks to Chris Laidlaw’s 18 points in their 28-7 win at Haddington.
Hawick YM’s clash with Murrayfield Wanderers in the same league was postponed as the Edinburgh side did not have front row cover.
