Hawick’s return to the RBS Premiership started with a disappointing 23-16 home defeat to Aberdeen this afternoon.

The Teries led 13-11 at half time but two tries in the second period sealed victory for the men from the Granite City.

Melrose began life under new head coach John Dalziel with a comfortable 30-13 win over Heriots at the Greenyards.

Two tries from Damien Hoyland as well as touchdowns from Andrew Skeen and Bruce Colvine meant Rose also claimed a bonus point.
