ROB HILL reports from Mansfield Haugh
THE match kicked off in reasonable conditions, and there were only two minutes on the clock when Ali Weir slotted a penalty.
But it took a further 26 minutes for YM to mark the scoreboard again.
This time, Weir sold a dummy to stroll under the posts for their first try, which he duly converted to take the score to 10-0 – at which it remained up to half-time.
The second period started as the first did, with a Weir penalty, but that proved to be the only similarity as the Hawick side began to get into the swing of the game.
In the 48th minute, Glyn Desport strolled down the wing to score under the posts before some quick thinking from Stuart Graham saw him charge down the ball and score his first YM try. With 16 minutes left, the Redskins were now chasing the bonus point and this came shortly afterwards when the pack rumbled over the line and Rory Scott was the man with the ball in hand to score.
Greens legend Danny Landels was on hand to score two more tries in the last four minutes, the last an interception and an easy jog to the line. Weir converted all five to take him to a personal tally of 23 points.
