Rain hits rugby matches

HEAVY rain on Saturday caused havoc with the region’s rugby fixtures, despite all being declared on at 9am.

Gala and Melrose were both scheduled to play at home, but as conditions deteriorated rapidly, neither game survived.

This was bad news for Aberdeen Grammar, who had reached Dalkeith in their long journey south before getting the news.

As for Edinburgh Accies, they arrived at The Greenyards to play Melrose and were happy to play.

Melrose had the opposite view and the referee called the match off.

In the other local game, Peebles beat Perthshire 23-7 and are second in Championship B.
