Mixed start for Borders sides

Melrose and Gala remain only two unbeaten teams sitting atop the BT Premiership, while Hawick and Selkirk struggle at the wrong end of the table after back-to-back disappointments, writes Alexander McLeman.

For the Maroons, their season continues on Saturday with a trip west to face Glasgow Hawks, while Melrose aim to knock off Ayr at the Greenyards in a repeat of last season’s play-off semi-final.

Hawick stagger back to Mansfield Park this weekend in the midst of a two-game losing run – the latest a disappointing defeat to Gala – to face a Stirling County side who completely obliterated Selkirk last weekend 52-12.

After an unbeaten National League One season last year, Selkirk haven’t enjoyed much success in the short time they’ve been in the Premiership and life doesn’t get much easier this weekend when they welcome reigning Premiership champions Heriot’s to Philiphaugh.

In National League One, Kelso travel to Glasgow to take on last season’s Premiership promotion play-off losers GHA as they look to bounce back from a disappointing draw with Dundee, while Jed-Forest and Peebles hope to earn their first win when they face-off against each other at Riverside Park.
