A CREATIVE display of running rugby was on show at the Greenyards on Sunday as Melrose Ladies cruised to a crushing victory.
Melrose got on the scoreboard early on from Gillian Inglis’ pace on the outside. Watsonians soon hit back with a try from their forwards after a good contested lineout.
The turning over scrums by the Melrose forwards was a highlight given Watsonians considerable size advantage, setting it up nicely for the home backs to turn the gas on.
Offload after offload allowed various individuals to run in tries, more than a couple coming from half way.
Melrose’s foot was still on the gas in the second half as Watsonians found themselves pinned in their own 22 for long periods.
Credit must be given to their second rows who got over the game line on a few occasions.
The Melrose back row linked in well with their backs to cause Watsonians havoc until referee called time early on the Premier One league match.
Try scorers: Gillian Inglis 6, Chloe Rollie 3, Nicola Halfpenny 2, Lyndsey Gilchrist, Tara Elms, Suzie Webb. Halfpenny converting 11 from 14.
