Hawick Linden 36

Ross High 17

NATIONAL DIVISION THREE

LINDEN, in the end, came out easy winners, but for the first 30 minutes they went through a catalogue of schoolboy errors.

These allowed Ross High to take an early lead as their winger waltzed through a defence that was rooted to the spot to touch down at the posts.

Linden responded well with full back Adam Hall fielding a loose kick before joining up with Greg Wylie, who sent Stuart Renwick trundling up the touchline for 40m, handing off several vain tackle attempts in the process of scoring.

Almost from the kick-off Linden managed to knock on and the Ross High stand-off picked up inside his own 22 and galloped unopposed to touch down at posts and convert. But right on half-time Wylie picked up a loose ball and sent Steven Bouglas on a solo run from the halfway line to score.

After the break it was a different story. Pressure on the Ross High line with Graeme Colville, Steven Harkness and Barrie Keown to the fore, brought a quickly-taken penalty and Steven Bouglas strolled in, giving John Tait an easy conversion.

Then, after a raking Greg Cunningham clearance kick, Renwick strolled in for the bonus point try and added the extras.

With Linden now completely on top forwards and backs combined to send Wylie in unopposed.

Ross High replied with a try in corner and in the dying minutes Craig Smith appeared out of nowhere to jink through a bemused defence to score at posts with captain Wattie Davies converting.
