Edinburgh Northern 32

Hawick Linden 48

RBS EAST LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

LINDEN got off to a disastrous start, dropping the kick-off and missing tackles to allow the home team in for a converted try.

But Royal Blues skipper Barry Sutherland stroked over a hat-trick of penalties to put his team into the lead.

However, Northern put over a penalty of their own to again go ahead.

And Blair Irving was forced from the field with an ankle injury to add to Linden’s injury woes.

But his teammates overcame this setback with a score just on half-time, Conor Gracie going over in the corner.

Linden’s front row received a welcome break as a fresh trio came on for the second half.

Sean Fairbairn seized the kick-off, Lee Stewart hit up and Steven Bouglas burst through and rounded the full back for a great score. Sutherland converted before slotting over a penalty.

Northern replied with a similar score before Gavin Stirling had to leave the field with a head cut.

A home 22 drop-out was fielded by Sean Goodfellow, who surged over for a magnificent individual try which Sutherland converted. Craig Mitchell then touched down for another try, followed by Goodfellow crossing the line again. Sutherland converted.

A howler of a mistake allowed Northern a touchdown in the corner and they added a converted score not long after.

Stewart and Fairbairn combined to provide lovely line-out ball and slick handling put Stuart Campbell in at the corner.

Northern had the final say with their powerful scrumming laying the foundation for a converted try.
