The penultimate game of the season at Milntown last Saturday turned out to be a winning one for Langholm, writes John Smith.
The home side ran in five tries in the RBS Border Shield clash with Hawick Linden and were comfortable winners, but that was not the full story.
Linden lock Tofts went off with a shoulder knock, but the visitors, who led 13-12 at that stage, had no replacements and carried on a player short.
Langholm took control thereafter and the overall play suggested they would have won even if the visitors had the full contingent, but we will never know. Linden even went down to 13 players in the closing stages.
Langholm tries were scored by Allan Tyler, Dane Massey (2), Niall Cubbon and Josh Duffy, while Cubbon and Massey notched a conversion apiece. For Linden, Shaun Fairbairn and Greig Baillie scored tries, with Ryan Beattie adding a penalty.
