NATIONAL DIVISION THREE

LINDEN maintained their recent good form with a comprehensive victory over their visitors from Aberdeen.

Linden controlled play early on and were rewarded after 30 minutes when a powerful drive by Gary Wardle was taken on by Keith Mabon with centre Steven Bouglas finishing off in style as he jinked through a bemused defence to score. Gavin Stirling converted from far out.

Gordonians replied with a penalty but, with Craig Smith to the fore, Linden were soon back on the attack. The ball was run along line to Ben Gilchrist on the wing who passed back inside and on to Adam Hall, making his debut for Linden at full back, who raced in for his first try. Half time: Hawick Linden 12 Gordonians 3.

After the turn around it was all Linden. Constant pressure and some good running by Michael Graham and Bouglas took play to the Gordonians’ line where the home forwards drove over with Kevin Brown emerging with ball in hand. Next, a break from a line saw Barrie Keown pulled down just short but Wardle was up to pick up and dive over. From the kick off Bouglas caught the ball and from deep in own half dodged through a ragged attempt at defence to race in at posts for Stirling to convert.

The rout continued with Scott Hinton taking the final honours after winning a race to a loose ball following a scrappy attempt at a clearance from the visitors.

Some sloppy defending allowed Gordonians to pick up consolation try and conversion in dying minutes of game but all in all it was a good solid victory for Linden with Bouglas outstanding on the wing. New boy Hall proved very secure at fullback with Stirling and Graham also putting in solid performances. In a hard working pack Keown, Craig Smith and Kevin Brown were the pick with Mabon proving an asset at the lineout.
