Linden in shape after three months

Hawick Linden 24

Forrester 10

NATIONAL DIVISION THREE

Linden resumed league business at the Volunteer Park with their first home game for more than three months.

Playing on a soft pitch, which held up remarkable well, Forester started the better and kept Linden pegged back in own half.

Gradually the hosts came more into game and pressurised their opponents’ line. Good work by the forwards, with Graeme Colville to the fore, brought a drive towards line. Steven Harkness took over and touched down for his first ever try for Linden in eight years.

With the pressure Linden were asserting, it was only a matter of time before another score came and that it did when Steven Bouglas picked loose ball and shot through a stricken Forrester defence with Gavin Stirling converting.

Turning round 12 points up, Linden were rather lackadaisical in defence after the restart allowing Forrester to plunder a try out of nothing.

This seemed to wake the hosts up and a powerful run by Wattie Davies backed up by the forwards saw Colville surge over the line to score and Stirling converted.

Back on the attack, Linden camped themselves in the opposition’s right-hand corner where a number of surges were repelled before Greg Cunningham cut inside to deceive the visiting defence and score.

With play deep into injury time, Forrester broke out to score in corner.
