Linden fall away

North Berwick 40

Hawick Linden 13

Linden played their last away league fixture of the season against high-flying North Berwick, who were sitting third in RBS East Region League Division 1.

Linden kicked off with the advantage of a strong wind and after several surges to the line, Craig Smith picked and drove over for a fine try. Kirk Ford converted.

The home side replied with an unconverted try, before taking the lead after 15 minutes with a converted score. Kirk Ford narrowed the gap with a penalty, but Linden soon lost captain Shaun Fairbairn.

Undeterred by the setback the Teries kept up the pressure and regained the advantage through another Ford penalty. Just before half-time Linden suffered another injury blow when Graham Blacklock was forced to leave the field. With no other replacements available, Linden would have to play the whole second half with 14 men.

And the East Lothian men made full use of the opportunity, scoring four converted tries in the second period while not allowing Hawick a sniff.

Another tough road trip for Linden, but they played with enough pride and passion to take credit for their performance.
