Hawick do not have their injury and suspension worries to seek at the moment, writes Kenny Paterson.
Already missing six first-team players, the Greens have lost Edinburgh professional stand-off Gregor Hunter, from Stow, after he tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee in Hawick’s defeat at Glasgow Hawks last Saturday.
And, as The Southern went to press, the club was facing a nervous wait to discover if scrum half Bruce Campbell would be banned at an SRU hearing last night (Wednesday) for this weekend’s game at Edinburgh Accies after he was sent off for stamping in the Hawks match.
Coach Phil Leck said: “My experience of ACL is that it is a long term injury.
“It was unfortunate for us because if Gregor had stayed on the field we would have won, as he was ripping Hawks apart.
“But more importantly, I am concerned for the lad.”
If Campbell is banned, Leck has lined up a replacement from England on a loan, with Hawick’s other number nine Greg Cottrell out injured.
However, influential fly half Rory Hutton undergoes a fitness test tonight in the hope that he can make the bench this weekend.
