JED-FOREST’S Gregor Young, will join twin brother Lewis in the Scotland 7s squad on a two-year contract.

His first year will be on a elite development basis and his second year on a full professional contract.

Gregor will link-up with the squad this week and will be in contention for a place on the team’s next outings to Dubai (Friday 30 November and Saturday 1 December) and South Africa (Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 December) in the HSBC Sevens World Series at the end of the month.

He said: “I’m over the moon to have signed for Scotland 7s, it’s exciting that Lewis and I have the opportunity now to play together for our country. We work well together.

“This is the first stepping stone to a career in rugby and I hope to develop as much as I possibly can. I know it’s going to be hard work, but I’m prepared to put in the work and hopefully I’ll feature in a couple of tournaments.”

Gregor is a familiar face on the Borders’ Kings of the Sevens series and was one of Scotland 7s’ sportscotland institute supported club players last season.

Today’s announcement, bolsters Phil Greening’s squad even further after the announcement of the 12 new club players earlier this week. His player-pool now stands at 28, with a full-time squad of 16.

Greening said: “We’re delighted to welcome Gregor into the squad, he has recently returned from a shoulder injury, but his performances for his club have been consistent.

“He has a lot of potential. He’s very good at seeing and hitting lines and he is a good finisher, with a lot of tries to his name.”
