HAWICK Linden hosted a strong Selkirk Seconds team enhanced by a number of first team players.

The home team’s spirited display was not helped when they were reduced to 13 men after an injury to Craig Mitchell in the second half, Robert Stitt had to leave for work and a yellow card for a minuscule interference with the laws of the game.

Linden centres Blair Irving and especially Craig Russell showed some strong and resolute running, and lock Jamie Scott did well filling in at scrum half.

In the forwards, Blaine Willison, in his first full game for Linden, put in a power of work, with Keith Mabon and Greg Cunningham to the fore.

Selkirk’s eight tries included a double for new Georgian recruit, Jaba Kikvidze, plus Ryan Godsmark (two), Callum McColm, Euan McDougal, Scott Hendrie and Ryan Henderson. Conversions were from Chris Shand (two), Callum McColm (three) and Craig McDougall.
