For the second week in a row Peebles made the long journey along the M8 to South West Glasgow this time for a BT National One fixture against GHA.
Peebles made the brighter start with an early try and should have been further ahead but for a couple of missed penalties. However Peebles were playing with a determination and good forward drives frequently took them into opposition territory but all too often mistakes let GHA gain control resulting in tries at the other end.
In a 10 minute spell around the half hour mark GHA scored three unanswered tries with the fourth bonus point try coming shortly before the break to leave the half time score at 33-8 and Peebles looking out of it.
However a stern half time team talk together with the sin binning of the GHA hooker galvanised Peebles into action and two quick fire tries took the score to 38-20.
The bonus point try came just on the half hour mark with the fifth following two minutes later to take the score to within four points. Peebles were now scenting victory and went after the winning score, pressurising the GHA line but were just beaten by the clock.
New prop James Coburn showed some silky touches although he had only arrived in the country 48 hours earlier and wing Arron Wilson had a couple of strong runs up the touch line but the man of the match performance came from David Paton – back to his rumbustious best.
Two bonus points is scant reward for all the effort but this performance is a clear indication the players have the ability to compete should give them the confidence to secure that elusive win.
