LANGHOLM made the long journey to Ellon last Saturday and suffered what looks a heavy defeat on paper, with five tries forfeited, but were better than the score suggests, writes John Smith.
Mark Ryan put Ellon ahead with two penalties and it was 13-0 after 30 minutes following a soft try and conversion.
Niall Cubbon kicked a penalty for Langholm, but just as it looked like the visitors were in a reasonable position, the home side grabbed another converted try to lead 20-3 at half time.
At the restart, Langholm lock Jamie Ashton-Smith was taken out in the air, but play was allowed to continue and Ellon got another converted try. Cubbon kicked a Langholm penalty to make it 27-6.
The Borderers just could not get any fluency going against the disruptive home side and finished up giving away another two tries plus a conversion.
Langholm fly half Keith Davidson was on target with a late drop goal to end the scoring.
