Buoyed on by a large, enthusiastic travelling support, Selkirk Rhinos soon forgot about the cold, damp conditions last Sunday and got down to business at the Kelso mini rugby tournament.
While success across the board maybe was not the same as the previous week, the efforts from all the players was unquestionable and they did the club and town proud with some good performances.
The P3s put in another competitive showing and the P4 players built up momentum throughout the tournament, scoring some good tries on the back of excellent tackling.
The P6s ran some very strong Borders teams close, while the P7 boys put in one of their best performances to date as a team.
Losing only one of their group matches denied them a place in their final. Again, their game was based on some outstanding tackling and defensive work, and the players were pleased with their improved efforts.
It must be noted that the P5s had another successful day after qualifying for yet another final. The team turned in some great attacking rugby, but after a bruising play-off encounter, in which they defeated Gala, they were met by Melrose who were simply the better outfit on the day. The boys, however, were very satisfied with their efforts and were delighted to be returning home to the Royal Burgh with a runners-up medal.
The next couple of weekends sees all age-group teams based at Philiphaugh for training, before making the annual trip to Peebles to take part in their tournament which this year is being played on Easter Sunday, April 20.
