Dundee HSFP 17
PREMIER DIVISION ONE
PLAYING in a constant drizzle certainly dampened the spirits of the Greenyards men on Saturday as they experienced their first defeat of the season.
Things didn’t look good from the off after Graeme Dodds was shown a yellow card for an alleged side entry after six minutes.
Dundee opted for a scrum five instead of a kick at goal and gained a pushover try with the credit being given to Danny Levison. James Fleming kicked the conversion and a penalty soon after. Twenty minutes later, the hosts again chose scrum over penalty – this time Fleming receiving the pass and diving into the corner for a try which was also converted.
Melrose came back when they too won a scrum five and Scott McCormick raced in to score a try, converted by Scott Wight, to leave the half-time score at 17-7 in favour of the Taysiders.
Wight kicked penalties at 56 and 64 minutes, but the Melrose attacks frequently ended with knock-ons, turnovers and poor option-taking – the losing bonus point small consolation.
