Cochrane looks to drive team forward

DESPITE the loss of a coach and having their 1st XV skipper ruled out for nine weeks due to suspension, Selkirk are keen to move forward.

But they are in no hurry to replace forwards coach Ewen Robbie who announced he was stepping down from his post last week. Assistant Iain Paxton will take charge of the forwards for the time being under head coach Ali Dickson, with Director of Rugby Cameron Cochrane also helping out.

Cochrane told The Southern: “Our ethos has always been to have a four-man coaching set-up at Philiphaugh and we will stick to that.

“Ewen felt the new coaching set-up was not turning out as he’d envisaged, so we now have to regroup and find someone who can work within our system, but we will take our time doing that.”

Following their bonus-point win against GHA last week, Cochrane is keen that his team keep up the momentum when facing Stew/Mel FP at Philiphaugh on Saturday.

Selkirk will be without captain Andrew Renwick until their Cup fixture at Jed-Forest on November 9 following his red card for verbally abusing the referee in the Watsonians game.
