Borders trio help Scots to memorable win

FOLLOWING on from the recent success of the national under-18 side, Scotland’s under-17s have been taking a prime scalp of their own.

Fraser Irvine (Selkirk YC), Blair Hutchison (Melrose Wasps) and Gregor Mein (Gala Wands) were among the Scotland squad to defeat their English counterparts 30-10 at West Park RFC, Leeds, on Sunday.

The trio played in the Borders under-17 team during the three national selection fxtures throughout March at Murrayfield. Subsequently the boys were selected for the Scotland squad, with whom they have had two training weekends and a warm-up match against Edinburgh under-18, which they won, prior to Sunday’s match against England.

Last month the under-18s, featuring Josh Welsh (Selkirk Youth Club), Russell Anderson (Langholm Colts) and Stuart Graham (Hawick PSA) beat their English rivals 26-21.
