PHIL LECK has named 15 Borders rugby players in his 41-man Scotland Club International squad ahead of matches against Ireland and France early next year.
Rory Sutherland, Ewan McQuillin, Gary Graham, George Graham, Chris Auld, Grant Sommerville (all Gala), Richard Ferguson, Peter Eccles, Andrew Nagle, Grant Runciman, Richard Mill, Fraser Thomson (all Melrose), Lindsey Gibson, Greg Cottrell (Hawick) and former Selkirk winger Nyle Godsmark have all been included.
Coach Leck said: “We have selected an initial squad that we can bring together and work on a game plan with and then as we train and play we can look at who puts their hand up.”
As well as weekly training sessions, the side will undertake a trial game, on January 6, followed by a warm-up game with Scotland under-20s on January 22, and then the official fixtures on February 7 against Ireland in Cork and March 7 at Old Anniesland against France Federale.
This weekend, the club players are back to league business with a double dose of derby action on the cards.
In the Premiership, Hawick welcome Gala to Mansfield Park, while Selkirk play host to Peebles. See page 64 for all fixtures.
