PREMIER DIVISION TWO
STUART PATON reports from The Gytes
A CLASSY Falkirk outfit brushed hosts Peebles aside, leaving them struggling, rooted to the foot of Premier Two.
A Johnny Hope penalty gave the visitors an early lead before Peebles managed to gain possession and ship the ball out wide. Falkirk were penalised at the breakdown and Alan Warnock slid in at the corner to edge his team into the lead.
Peebles were then pushed back and forced to defend inside their own 22, where the ball was eventually spun out to the dancing feet of Jef Lema who sailed through to score under the posts. Hope converted and added a penalty shortly afterwards.
Peebles replied with a three-pointer of their own from the boot of Neil Warnock, but the hosts were further hampered when Davey Paton was yellow-carded for a deliberate knock-on.
Frustration began to creep in and a minor dust-up preceeded Falkirk ripping through some poor defending, that man Leema waltzing in unhindered between the posts. Hope again converted, to give Falkirk a 20-8 lead at half-time.
Peebles rang the changes at the break and enjoyed a period of pressure. Once again, however, it was the visitors who had the finishing power, this time Gordon McGuire striding in to stretch the lead.
Neil Warnock slotted another penalty before the Pees gifted the ball to Falkirk on halfway, Lema picked up and sprinted through again and Hope converted to take a convincing victory.
