KIND-HEARTED Kelso Rainbows took on the might of Arties Olympics last month and won a gold in fund raising.
The girls, led by Jacqueline Bates, Jackie Taylor and Ann Cockburn, decided that as well as raising funds for their group (1st Kelso) they would also raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Arties Olympics is a resource for and organisations to raise funds and awareness of the work the BHF does to help people with heart diseases. The children made laurel wreaths for their heads, a banner, and an Olympic torch and held an opening ceremony lap round the track, at Croft Park in Kelso, supported by family members.
The Olympians then took part in a multi-althletic summer sport activity session organised by Lynn Young, the BHF 50/50 challenge lady.
They experienced javelin, shot putt, discus, golf putting, high and long jump and the tennis and cricket hits. The event was rounded off with a team relay.
All participants received medals. The girls raised more than £500 so far, terrific news for their group and the Kelso branch of the BHF.
