Teviotdale Turbos: Teviotdale Turbos' successful relay team, from left: Emma Suddon, Aylish Paisley, Rachel Sharp and Ellie Paisley.

TEVIOTDALE Turbos were in action last Thursday night at Galashiels in the Borders freestyle championships.

Nine swimmers from the club participated, all in the 100m. Lindsay Boyle was first up in her opening competitive race for Turbos and recorded a four-second pb.

Jenny Sharp and Amy McMichan performed well in the next event, as did Mairead Cottrell and Lindsay Jack in the following heat.

Ellie Paisley was next up and finished just inside her pb.

Rachel Sharp, Aylish Paisley and Emma Suddon competed in the last two races – all three were well inside their previous times. Aylish and Emma swum themselves into the B final, while Rachel reached the A final. Emma and Aylish had great races, with Rachel clinching fourth.

Emma lifted the overall under-12 trophy for the fastest time, while Lizi Clelland (Kelso) took the under-16 honours, with Rachel finishing a close second. The John C. Mackay Memorial Trophy won by Emma last went to Hawick competitors in 1973 and 1972 – Janis K. Brown and Elaine Fox (now Miller) respectively.

The relays were next, with Teviotdale fielding two teams.

Jenny, Mairead, Amy and Lindsay were first up, swimming a good time. Next, Rachel, Emma, Aylish and Ellie bagged the silver medal in an exciting finish behind Gala.
