THE curtain comes down on the Border Games athletic season on Sunday with the staging of the Borders Classic Meeting at Tweedbank.
And the main event on an exciting-looking card is the Classic Invitation 150m handicap which features a top-class sprinting field.
This event consists of two heats and set to get down on their marks in the opening run are: Luke Lowther, Jed AC (24m); Geoff Keen, Selkirk (20m); Tommy Finkle, TLJT (19m); Ryan Trimby, Hawick (16m); John Fleming, Kelso (16m) and Craig Grieve, TLJT (7m).
Heat two sees the appearances of: Graeme Armstrong, Edinburgh (25m); David Grieve, Hawick (21m); Sean Grant, Innerleithen (17m); Dylan Ali, TLJT (15m); David Rae, TLJT (15m) and Keiran Kivlin, Edinburgh (7m).
All of these runners have featured highly during the season and anything is liable to happen in the battle for honours in this one.
There is also a Classic Invitation 1,200m handicap which sees Kelso pair Darrell Hastie and Colin Welsh both run from scratch. The rest of the field consists of Iain Little, Langholm (65m); Adam Craig, TLJT (65m); Dean Whiteford, Innerleithen (90m); Andrew Thomson, Jed AC (110m); John Thomson, Coaltown (115m) and Fergus McGaw Dunfermline (115m).
Craig Grieve of TLJT and Edinburgh’s Kieran Kivlin, who notched up excellent sprint wins at Hawick Games and Jedburgh Games during the term, are joint back-markers in the 150m open handicap, from a mark of two metres.
Other senior events, as well as junior and youth races, complete the Tweedbank bill.
