IN A GREAT weekend for the Fjordhus Reivers Ladies seconds, the Tweedbank-based outfit won both their games in an entertaining double header.
With the lack of hockey over the last few weeks because of unplayable pitches, the ladies hoped that the hard work they had put in on the training ground would pay off. And it looks like it did.

EAST LADIES DIVISION ONE
on Saturday Rievers played Civil Service at Broughton High School.
Right from the start, Ashley Robson as captain set the standard that she required from her players by slotting a goal from a penalty corner in the first two minutes.
Her players all rose to the occasion and by half time the team had six goals with a hat trick from Nicola Weallans, one from the tireless Martha Douglas and another from Alexa Knox.
Leia Mackinnon played her first senior ladies game aged 14 and the maturity and composure on the ball with her tireless work off it saw her play a part in almost every goal.
The Borderers maintained the pressure throughout the first half with almost 100 per cent possession but missed a number of opportunities. A lack of concentration on the stroke of half time saw the Civil Servants come back with their only goal.
In the second half, the Reivers tired, and though they continued to pressurise, they only managed to slot away one more from captain Robson after receiving a reverse stick pass from Leia Mackinnon.

EAST LADIES DIVISION ONE
SUNDAY’S game at home against Edinburgh University was a tough challenge.
With no recognised goalkeeper available for the Reivers, veteran Jackie Wilson pulled off some fantastic saves in the air and used her knowledge from football to make frequent saves on the ground, kicking the ball to safety.
Reivers spent about 85 per cent of the game in their opponents’ half. Laura McColm and Ashley Robson dominated the middle of the pitch and after good combination play the latter scored the first goal at the back post within the first 10 minutes.
Edinburgh University tackled hard in defence, but Sara Robson, even though carrying a knee injury, managed to get the ball through to score the second. Reivers then missed a lot of opportunities, passing the post by inches and the university’s breaks upfield were expertly dealt with by young Jade Tyreman who had an outstanding game in defence and linked well with Kirsty Sharkey in midfield.
A powerful Laura McColm shot was saved on the line by a defender’s foot which should have been a penalty stroke, but a penalty corner was awarded and the girls failed to convert.
The second half started fast and furious, but Reivers maintained their control. Nicola Weallans, in her last game before moving south, put in the legwork and linked well from defence through to her midfield and strikers.
The third goal came from captain Robson again showing her leadership qualities, so all three goals were scored by the Hawick sisters.
