Firsts class, seconds not so much

IN a mixed bag of the season for all the teams, the ladies’ first squad had a tremendous summer, finishing unbeaten in second place in Division Two of the Border League.

They played 10, winning seven of their games and drawing three.

The seconds finished mid-table in Division Three, winning two and drawing one of the eight games they played. This was a creditable performace from a team containing several new members playing in the league for the first time.

As reported in these columns, the men’s first team picked up the Division Two title thanks to a record of eight wins and two draws from their 10 games.

The club congratulated captain Scott Lees and his team Josh Thompson, Alan and Neil Brown, Greg Canning and Tom Welsh.

And so to the annus horribilis of the Selkirk men’s B team. The luckless lads failed to win a match, drawing two and losing five of their seven ties.

The laws of defamation prevent the author of this article on behalf of the club from printing the names of the players – you will notice them going about the town wearing masks.

Finally, the club is anxiously seeking members to come forward to join the committee.

Members are assured that it is not an onerous task and there are mentor arrangements in place to help anyone new coming along.
