Ettrick Forest in uneasy second place

IT WAS mixed fortunes for Ettrick Forest last week following a double dose of league encounters.

Firstly, the team travelled to Innerleithen to play St Ronan’s and after a shaky start began to catch up and close in on their hosts who were looking for their first league win of the season.

With four ends remaining it looked like Forest were going to complete the comeback, but their opponents held on to serve a disappointing defeat on Ettrick Forest with a scoreline of 89-72.

Looking to bounce back, Ettrick Forest welcomed Peebles on a warm and sunny Monday night for a postponed league match.

Early on, it looked like a Common Riding hangover might have cost the home team, but unlike the previous match Etrrick Forest managed to hold things together and complete a hard-fought victory against a strong Peebles side by 81-71 to keep them two points behind local rivals Selkirk at the top.

The combined seniors team followed last week’s disappointing home defeat to Gala with a hard-fought victory away to Abbotsford by 55-53.
