Alan takes the wheel

AT Selkirk Golf Club’s AGM, outgoing captain Jock Easson handed over the armband to incoming captain Alan Wheelans, who then introduced his vice-captain, Stuart Kemp.

Earlier in the meeting, the treasurer – Ian Clark – reported that as the club’s finances are in a fairly healthy condition, he was proposing that this year’s subscriptions remain the same as last year.

This proposal found no opposition, strangely enough.

On the golf front, the cold weather meant a delayed start to last weekend’s Winter Woollies competition, resulting in a slightly curtailed entry.

Nevertheless, a fair number of hardy individuals participated, and none participated better than ice-cool Les Rutherford with a nett 33 which was enough to freeze out Gerald Beggs by a shot.

For a change there were no two’s and there were no reports of any golfer in need of sympathy for reaching double figures. Well, there is always this week.

And this week there will be a three-man Texas Scramble – weather permitting of course. AM
