A winter’s tale from The Hill

FOUR-and-twenty golfers took to The Hill last Saturday to take advantage of the snow-free conditions, and there was some stunning golf played.

None performed better than Tom Welsh, the winter wizard, whose score included five threes.

This week’s sympathy goes to Mitch Thomson who had his tail up when he stood on the fifth tee after a good start, but it was a different tale when he finally left the fifth green 11 shots later with his tail between his legs.

Results: 1, T. Welsh nett 31; 2, N. Roxburgh 32; 3, L. Rutherford 33.

There were only three twos last Saturday, with John Coyle and Bill Walton showing the necessary skills to hole out in two, as did Alan Brown whose card contained rather a lot of sixes, but also a two at the last hole following a putt which was wondrous to be holed.
