With great age comes great consistency

Experience seems to be the most significant secret to success in recent longbow shoots, with two of Selkirk’s most senior bowmen coming up trumps.

Ettrick Forest Archers’ Jimmy Stillie was the pride of Scotland by becoming Scottish Clout Champion at the recent competition held at Culzean Castle in Ayrshire,

His 41 hits, 103 score, and one clout was enough to see him pip some of the country’s best longbowmen to the title.

Fellow EFA members Doug Anderson came sixth and Jim Craig 13th.

And what’s more, the ladies’ event was won by Selkirk’s Elaine Pearson, with Ev Craig fourth.

The archers were busy again at the weekend, hosting a come and try at the Haining’s Teddy Bear’s Picnic, before another member came to the fore on Sunday ... Doug Anderson winning the Abbotsford Arrow in the annual wand competition, and his grandson Kyle won the junior section.

This Saturday sees the club host the Flodden Clout at Thirladean.

Rumours saying Jimmy Stillie is in with a good chance in this one due to his experience gained in the original battle have been largely, but not completely dismissed.
