TENNIS twins Emily and Annabel Watson, 16, have served up a smashing summer of success where they have punched well above their weight on courts around Britain.
The girls started out at the North Berwick tournament where Emily won the Under-16 girls and mixed Under-18s and Annabel won the women’s handicap.
On to Sussex, and the Devonshire Park Grade Two event (where the pre-Wimbledon ladies’ tournament takes place). The 38 beautiful grass courts were immaculate and the sun shone throughout.
Emily knocked out the no 3 seed and got to the semis, while, playing together in the doubles, the girls lost in a match tie-break in the final. Nearer to home at the Kelso tournament, the girls dominated in the singles to face each other in the Under-16 final. Emily pipped Annabel at the post in a tie-break finale.
Finally, the girls travelled to Norfolk to play at Hunstanton where they reached the final only to be beaten by two great players (5.1 ratings).
The girls are continuing their squad training in Edinburgh and Emily is now rated 7.2 and No 1 for the South of Scotland. Annabel is rated 8.2 and is fifth Under-18.
