Tweed Valley event hits the spot with water company

THE Tweed Valley Stages rally with Clelands has landed two significant stage sponsors, with just over a week to go until the inaugural event.

The new rally, based in Selkirk on Saturday, July 23, will revive some of Scotland’s best-loved stages and has won endorsement from John Cleland and rally legend Alister McRae.

Now the decision to resurrect the popular tracks of Elibank and Yair has won further approval, with Alba Water and MacDowall Motors now on board to sponsor the stages.

Alba Water’s bottling plant is located next to Elibank and company director and rally fanatic, Ben McCosh, is delighted the firm’s name is to be connected with such a famous stage.

He commented: “It is fantastic to see Elibank back again on the rallying map and it is in great condition for the event.

“This rally is not only good for Scotland, but it is also good for enterprise in the Borders.

“It seemed a very natural fit for Alba Water to sponsor the Elibank Stage as the company’s connection with the locality goes back a long way.”

McCosh himself will act as recovery officer at the rally.

The Yair stage has also won backing, with Kilmarnock-based MacDowall Motors confirming its sponsorship.

Business Partners John and Allan MacDowall have thrown their support behind the rally, regretting only that they cannot attend on the day.

Allan MacDowall said: “I am sorry none of us will be on the event due to a private family commitment.

“Otherwise, I would have been driving my regular co-driver and one of the event organisers, Gavin Heseltine, around in the competitive course car.

“In fact, I really wanted to drive these stages competitively having spectated on them before becoming a competitor.

“However, we thought it was important that we sponsored one of the stages to show our support for the event.

“It is really good to see that these stages are to be re-opened for rallies.”

The new event has been classified as a round of the Fuchs Titan Race ANCC Stage Rally Championship and the Scottish Borders Rally Championship.

It is also a round of the Competition Car Insurance EMAMC Multi-Venue Championship.
