Toxophilites on tour

Ettrick Forest Archers had another home and away experience at the weekend.

Saturday saw six members travelling to Gibson Park in Northumberland for an Albion round, shot under BLBS rules.

Elaine Pearson won the prize for most golds for the ladies, while Doug Anderson managed the same feat for the gents.

And Ev Craig, with a total of 124, won the traditional prize of a leather bowbag from the National Trust, for getting the closest score to the number of years the prize has been up for grabs (116).

Back at their home field of Thirladean on Sunday, the members contested the club’s annual Philiphaugh Target, which took the form of a Western round.

Elaine Pearson was in form again, taking the ladies’ title, with Ev Craig taking the highest score and Helen Ogilvie most golds.

For the gents, it was Alan Lindsay who soared to the top, with Doug Anderson notching the highest score and Mike Pearson the most golds; while Sam Mackay was once again the junior title winner. Other awards on the day were: first three arrows in the same colour – Alan Walker; first inner gold – Richard Tice; petticoats prince – Jim Craig; worst white – Willie Good.

There’s a slight break in competition this weekend as members have a chance to hone their skills in target practice at Thirladean.
