Top card at the Tofts as sprinters go for glory

The Border Games carousel is slowly coming to a halt, but on Saturday matters continue to spin with the staging of Morebattle Games.

Top event on the Tofts track programme is the 110m handicap, and while the hosts don’t have a representative in the sprint, there is a strong local interest from neighbouring Kelso.

Heading the list is Fraser Neil. From the Adie Gray school, strong-running Neil has shown up well throughout the season. A sprint victory, however, has still to come his way.

Also gunning for glory for the Gray stable are brothers John and Matthew Fleming, who have strong Morebattle connections. John runs from 6m, while Matthew, winner of the Earlston Games sprint, is off 12.5m.

Another Tweedsider liable to impress is Ewan Pettigrew who, competing under the banner of Jed AC, has been placed on a mark of 4.5m by handicapper Don Campbell.

Kelso’s Colin Welsh competes from scratch in the 1,600m.

A full card of senior and youth’s events completes the Morebattle bill.
