GOOD recent form has secured Moorfoot runner Sarah MacCormack pre-selection for Ireland for the World Mountain Running Championships in Albania on September 11.
The 24-year-old PhD student from Peebles was top Irish finisher at the uphill-only European Championships earlier this summer. She justified her World Championship selection ahead of the Irish trial race by smashing the women’s course record at the recent Turnhouse Hill Race by one and a half minutes and then reducing her 5,000m track personal best by a whopping 44 seconds at the Glasgow Miler meeting at Scotstoun last Friday.
Sarah, an Irish national who plies her trade in the Scotland, said “The European Championships was my first uphill-only race and it was really tough, but retrospectively I enjoyed it. I prefer up and down courses, though, so am really looking forward to Albania.”
The women’s World Championship race is run over a two-lap course of 8.6km and 547m climb.
