GALA began their Border 20/20 Cup campaign with an emphatic 125-run win over Hawick and Wilton at Meigle Park.

The home side dominated from the off with a great century opening stand between Josh Irvine and David Boland before Irvine was bowled by Stewart for 38. However, Andy McMenemy went cheaply and Boland soon followed, with the score on 128.

Neil Crooks and Duncan Millar kept the score mounting with a 45-run partnership, before Millar was run out for 16 in the final over, and the Gala innings ended in grand style when Crooks hit a straight six off the final ball to make it 181 for 4.

Hawick were never in the hunt as they lost early wickets. First Neil Storey played across a straight ball from Scott Paterson and was lbw and Allan Moffat was bowled by Kris Mein in the next over. Paterson struck again with the score at 18 when Ben Hartop scooped him to Crooks at mid-wicket then it was over to Graeme Ormiston.

After Phil Mactaggart and Ali Weir had added 21 for the fourth wicket the Gala spinner came on and bowled Weir with his first delivery. He went on to take three more wickets for just four runs from his 3.4 overs, eventually finishing the match when Rory Anderson was stumped by Millar.
