A REGULAR composite team for young athletes in the Borders was first mooted about five years ago by the Scottish Borders Athletics Development Group.
Team Borders was certainly recognised as a force to be reckoned with in their inaugural season, winning three of the seven available age-group cross-country league titles before gaining promotion to the JSB Plumbing Forth Valley League Division One during the summer track and field events.
The 2012-13 East District Cross-Country League brought further success, with an amazing five of the seven age-group trophies coming back to the Borders in January, both the Under-11 titles, plus the Under-13 Girls, the Under-15 Boys and Under-17 Men.
The summer of 2013 also saw Team Borders consolidate its place in the Forth Valley League with a fourth-place finishing position.
And the 2013-14 cross-country season has continued in the same vein.
Another three East League titles were secured at Broxburn, the Under-11 Boys, for the third year in succession, and both the Under-13 Boys and Girls.
That makes 11 league titles out of a possible 21 in the three seasons since the team was formed, an amazing success rate considering the opposition from the big clubs the length of the country.
